Roasted Cabbage Steaks - Crispy and Tender!

These Roasted Cabbage Steaks are a simple side dish that’s surprisingly flavorful, with savory garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a drizzle of melted butter. Roasting in the oven makes the edges fantastically crispy and browned, while the centers are tender and caramelized. You’ve never had cabbage like this before!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cabbage
  • ¼ cup butter softened / slightly melted
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  • Slice the cabbage into 1-inch thick slabs

  • Arrange on a baking sheet that has been drizzled with olive oil, and sprinkle the cabbage slices with salt

  • Mix the melted butter, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper together.

  • Spoon the butter onto the cabbage and spread it around (a pastry brush works well for this), ensuring to work it into the nooks and crannies.
  • Roast in a preheated oven at 200°C / 400°F until the edges are crisp and the middles are tender - about 20-30 minutes, depending on how thick your cabbage slices are.

  • The butter will brown as the cabbage steaks roast, and they will both smell and taste fabulous.
  • The outer leaves will become very brown and crisp. They are delicious, and you should sneak them off the tray before anyone else gets to them.
  • I love serving these with some toasted nuts or seeds and herbs on top
