These Roasted Cabbage Steaks are a simple side dish that’s surprisingly flavorful, with savory garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a drizzle of melted butter. Roasting in the oven makes the edges fantastically crispy and browned, while the centers are tender and caramelized. You’ve never had cabbage like this before!
Arrange on a baking sheet that has been drizzled with olive oil, and sprinkle the cabbage slices with salt
½ teaspoon salt
Mix the melted butter, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper together.
¼ cup butter, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika, ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper, ½ teaspoon salt
Spoon the butter onto the cabbage and spread it around (a pastry brush works well for this), ensuring to work it into the nooks and crannies.
Roast in a preheated oven at 200°C / 400°F until the edges are crisp and the middles are tender - about 20-30 minutes, depending on how thick your cabbage slices are.
Notes
Nutrition values are an estimate only
Choose a cabbage that is heavy for the size - mine was 1.2kg / 2lbs 8oz
The butter will brown as the cabbage steaks roast, and they will both smell and taste fabulous.
The outer leaves will become very brown and crisp. They are delicious, and you should sneak them off the tray before anyone else gets to them.
I love serving these with some toasted nuts or seeds and herbs on top
