1. I've been making a point to get out of the house and go for a long walk with Odin at least once a day. My instinct is to just work work work, so I find it frustrating that I "waste" his sleeping time walking outside, but I know it's good for us both.
It's been friggen cold out over the last week, but also sunny and beautiful. Today there were tons (like, hundreds) of people out skating on the frozen lake we live near by, with poles and these long skates you put on over your shoes. They go long distances and stay in groups for safety. It looks fun, but also kind of terrifying.
2. In the winter months, when it's too late in the day to take photos under my living room window, I move my set up out to the balcony which gets probably another hour of light. Those spaghetti squash photos below were taken out there, in -4°C, wearing Odin in the Moby wrap. The things we do...
3. The reader who emailed me to tell me that she, too, used to be tempted to bite her kids is officially my new favourite reader. Hey-o, Marilyn!
4. Both of my kids have enormous, wide heads. I thought Niko's head was so wide because he had a flat head, but now with Odin I can see that's just the shape of their head. With that wide head and those cheeks for days, when he falls asleep on the boob and I'm looking down at that angle, I swear he looks just like Stewie from Family Guy.
5. For the past several weeks, Paul has been taking Niko swimming on Saturday mornings (because: showers) while I stay home with Odin. This week I suggested that I could try taking Niko if I pumped before hand, and Paul was willing to give it a go.
It went great! We had a great time at the pool (and had showers!) and when I checked in on Paul he said things were going fine, so I took Nikes out for lunch. He loves eating in restaurants, and I love taking him. It was so great to have some one-on-one time with my big boy.
6. So this is fun: the builders came in and checked in our bathroom last week. Good news? The concrete is dry! Bad news? They also have to rip out the guest toilet since the two bathrooms are on the same drain. We don't know what this means yet, but it may mean we need to relocate for a while. Living with no showers? Annoying but doable. Living with no toilet? No thanks.
7. I'm always on the look out for dull silver wear (because editing your reflection out of a spoon is a pain in the ass), and my sweet friend Alice just sent me this beautiful old spoon that had belonged to her grandmother. What an incredibly nice thing to do! I can't wait to use this in upcoming photoshoots!
