You guys, I tried SO HARD to get a recipe posted this week. Clearly it didn't happen. And I thought I could get it done today, but the few hours I had to pop into the office turned into 9 hours and the early Sunday dinner I had planned with my fella turned into pizza at the office. So, I hope you'll forgive another week without a recipe, but I promise you'll get one really soon! And in the mean time, so interesting food, nutrition, and health reads, and a tasty link.
1. I wasn't sure where I was at on the whole Lululemon 'thigh gap' scandal, but this article puts it into perspective nicely.
2. New research out of the University of Toronto suggests that 'healthy' vegetable oils may in fact increase the risk of heart disease.
3. Here are 18 things that everyone should start making time for again.
4. I've got a schedule packed with holiday dinners that started last weekend and keep on going all the way through Christmas. Here's some good tips for eating as healthy as possible as we slide into the holiday season.
5. How to talk to your daughter about her body. Wise words.
Also, Erika teaches us cupcake mixology. Like, woah.

I have to admit the thought of maybe having a daughter soon is slightly terrifying to me, in part because as a woman myself I know firsthand about all the pressure and messaging regarding girls' and womens' bodies and how hard it can be to be strong and accepting and all that good stuff. Reading that article gave me a little more confidence because I don't think it would ever even occur to me to talk about a diet in front of my kid and hells to the no would I EVER tell any one of my kids, hmm, you're gaining weight, let's put you on a diet. Plus I will totally teach all my kids, girl or boy, to cook, to cook with kale, and how to bake amazing delicious goods and relish them. Also, we should remember to talk to our sons like that, too. Boys and men need to be strong and accepting when it comes to their bodies, AND know how to fend for themselves in the kitchen, too.

I agree, it's important for boys and men as well! I do cringe sometimes when I hear mother talking too / about / near their daughters regarding their bodies, how much they eat, etc. Even the little ones take it in, and I've seen an 8 year old fit healthy beautiful girl eat nothing but cucumber for dinner because she's trying to please her mother. So sad! I think we need to teach balance in diet, activity, and in choosing the words we say. Tough path, though. I don't envy you parents for all you have to think about.

Katie--#5 was so good, it almost made me cry. (But I think all the carbs + sugar I ate last night might be doing wack things to my hormones). It makes me hopeful that my potential future daughter won't have my same food issues. Such good points!
And that Lululemon issue--disgusting. So disappointed in them. It's too bad that one rotten apple can ruin the image of the entire company, with its good and bad factions.
And #3 and 4 were great reads! I laughed when I read the "schedule activity first" in #4 because yesterday I hosted a potluck and was debating going for a run before or after and I'm so glad I did it before because of course I had no energy to run afterwards! So pooped. But happy.
And thanks for the link love!! Great reads as always <3
