Last weekend Paul and I bundled up and took our books and a couple of old newspapers to sit on and went to read and hang out by the water for a while. I will never get tired of this view.
What’s good around the web is a weekly series where I share some of what I’ve been reading around the web. Each week I’ll be posting links to five nutrition related articles, good recipes, and just general good reads. I hope you enjoy it! If you’ve got at article or recipe you’d like to see featured, please email me.
Prop 37 (mandatory labelling of GMO foods) was voted down in California last week, likely due to the $45 million spent by big food on vote no campaigns. I've been asked if, from a nutritional standpoint, it's possible that GMO foods are just as nutritious or even more nutritious than their non-GMO counterpoints. Maybe, but it's a sad result, I think, because people definitely have a right to know what they're eating. Here are a few links to check out on the subject:
Prop 37 take home lesson: the power of money in politics.
Delusions of Danger: Why the food movement's demonization of genetically modified crops isn't just scientifically baseless - it's politically stupid. (I don't agree with the position in this article, but it's an interesting read nonetheless)
The Food Movement Takes a Beating (This article deals with Prop 37 as well as the rejected soda taxes)
